Something To Consider About The Jets

I was driving in the car today listening to sports talk radio and the subject was the New York Jets,  the bravado of Rex Ryan and how the culture seems to be working for the team on the field. It got me thinking. Just how dangerous is it if the New York Jets win the Super Bowl?

In life we are taught many lessons by our parents, friends, peers, idols and mentors. It seems more and more the lessons are starting at a younger age. Instead of teaching competition first they now teach sportsmanship. I didn't grow up in these times, I like most people on the Rex Ryan band wagon get a kick out of calling your shots before they happen, making everything a competition and personal. But I have to tell you, I don't what it is , but it just clicked. What are the repercussions of Jets winning with the demeanor of their coach and key players being so arrogant and boisterous.

Are we going to start seeing pee wee league coaches hyping their players up at weekend games trying to emulate Rex Ryan? How about the condoning of kids in High School sports smack talking weeks before a game about how they are going to beat this person and taking shots at the opposing teams players. People in life often follow those who succeed. So that's what got me wondering how far will this new trend go if New York Jets win the Super Bowl. Many people will say it's the parents job to teach the values blah blah blah... Realistically its every ones job, just not the parents. We all are role models, the parents and surrounding families  are the primary ones. So when kids are spending half their time at school and the other half at after school events be it athletics or with other friends how can we reinforce the positive and identify the negative if in this case the Jets win the Super Bowl. I just may be over reacting to a thought in my head but just something to think about. I know its made me change my view.

Donovvan McNabb Money or Something Else?

In one of the weirdest comments I have heard today, Donovan McNabb wants to stay a Redskin. I do want to be back here, I look for good things to happen here with the Redskins," McNabb said in a paid weekly appearance with EPSN-980 AM (via CSN Washington). Is it good things in Washington or the money driving McNabb? Hmm...


If you worked at a job and your boss told you that you were no longer going to manage the team, we need to go in a different direction. Would you want to enter the fold because you thought good things were going to happen or would your recently signed contract be a cause for such a decision. I an not judging McNabb but at some point if you want people to treat you with respect and in the way you view yourself, you have to represent what you are and who you want to be. Donovan is doing himself no favors by not saying outright I want to start in the NFL for any other team than the Redskins. My teammates are great and are not the cause for this comment. I just believe that at this point in my career I have options and I look forward to exercising them. In my opinion he would be better off with that kind of statement than taking the high road. He's been walked on by T.O., the Eagles and now the Redskins. At some point you need to stand up for what you believe in. Maybe in this case its millions of dollars in a contract. Time will tell. 

Keyes Foresees Week 16 NFL

Big week in the NFL for some team not so much for others. So in the spirit of competition I will only pick games that have playoff implications for my Key Picks. Recapping from last week we had an OK performance going 9-6 against the spread and 10-6 outright. Key Picks were 3-0 bailed out by D Jackson of the Eagles in the final seconds, Phillip Rivers and Vincent Jackson torching the 49ers on Thursday Night and Peyton coming through again for the colts. Overall for the year we are at 53-40 vs the spread and 58-35 outright. 


This weeks picks are Chicago at home over the Jets. Jay Cutler is looking better and better, Forte isn't hurt and the game is at Soldier Field. Going with the Colts again but this time on the road in Oakland just because Peyton doesn't want to miss the playoffs. Finally the big one... for all the marbles in the NFC, I look for the Falcons to clinch home field and get that week one bye with "Matty Ice" out playing Drew Brees. That's this weeks Keyes Foresees.

Keyes Foresees Week 15 NFL

Week 14 was a setback going 6-10 vs the spread, 7-9 overall for our first week under 500 in the past 3. Pittsburgh was the only Key Pick to win against the spread and outright. So no sense dwelling in the past when we have week 15 right around the corner. 

Week 15 has Key Picks of the Chargers over the 49ers. I mean can anyone stop Phillip Rivers? Peyton Manning and the Colts over the Jags because he is Peyton. The Eagles and Mike Vick over the Giants continuing to write the script for what will surely be a movie someday and of course it would be great if a good deal of the proceeds went to charities against animal cruelty. 

NFL Renews With Sirius XM

The NFL and Sirius XM Radio have renewed their content subscription for another 5 years. This time around they are adding the ability to listen to the play by play calls online. For NFL fans who travel this is a must, not to mention Fantasy Sports players like myself. One feature I would like Sirius to add is the ability to get your teams stats through your radio. I may be jumping the gun but I believe Direct TV does this now. In any event Good job NFL and Sirius.

Keyes Foresees Week 13 NFL

Keyes Foresees is rolling into Week 13 with a 13-3 against the spread and 13-3 outright. Key Picks had a perfect week 3-0 and 3-0. For those of you have been following it was a rough start but the ship seems to have been righted. Just as a matter of disclosure I am by no means a handicapper, just a fan. So for Week 13 we have Chicago Bears more than covering the spread vs the  Detroit Lions, St. Louis  Rams continuing their rise with another win on the road for consecutive weeks and in the big MNF New England covers the spread over the  NY Jets. I don't believe it will be even close...at least 2 TD win for New England. Playoffs are getting close...
