Red Sox Strike Again

Theo has struck again. How is it that the Red Sox with less money continue to reload causing the New York Yankees fits? Carl Crawford has signing with the Red Sox has once again tilted the scale toward the Red Sox in the American League East as well to GM Theo Epstein in the battle for best GM. I just mentioned in my blog on Dec. 6 how talented the Red Sox lineup would be with an addition of Carl Crawford. Apparently Theo thought the same and made it happen.

This signing will put the Sox as the favorites for the AL East title. The pitching staff for the Red Sox have built is close to perfection as it gets. Beckett, Lester, Lackey and Bucholz are top line pitchers on any team. Now add the offensive support they will have with additions of Crawford and Gonzalez.

The Yankees are forced to sign Cliff Lee at this juncture for nothing less than to try and keep pace. Their current rotation consists of Sabatthia, Hughes, Burnett and Nova. The Rays rotation of Garza, Price, Niemann, Hellickson and Davis is just a tad below the Red Sox but clearly out in front of the Yankees.

Theo knows how to make moves and they are probably not done yet. I still think Russell Martin  will end up in Boston, Saltalamacchia isn't the answer there and Varitek will catch 40-50 games at most if that.

So if I were Theo my next move would be to get Carlos Beltran even if it meant moving Ellburry. That would be the nail in the coffin.
