Red Sox Should Try For Young

Michael Young of Texas Rangers is looking to be traded. Young's old position has been taken by newly signed 3B Adrian Beltre. That signing pushed Young to DH. The latest development has Young not being happy and asking for a trade confirmed by the Rangers themselves.

Now would be the time for the Red Sox to step in. Yes the Red Sox already have Youkolis at 3B who is more than able to do the job. The advantage to be gained here is at SS, where they currently have Marco Scutaro. By gaining Michael Young they would have a plan A at SS and a plan B at 2B if Pedroia happens to get injured again.

The minus side to this acquisition is 16 million in salary they would have to take on, but in the grand scheme of things the line up they would have with Young instead of Scutaro is well worth the investment. This would also give them time with Jed Lowrie to either further develop or move for another piece.

I am just throwing this out there but why not move Papelbon for Young straight up. Rangers get a closer and a 4 millon dollar pay decrease. This move would allow Neftali Feliz to join the rotation which is his normal position. The Red Sox have closer Bobby Jenks along with Daniel Bard. Sounds like a win win situation to me.

Theo Epstein are you listening? Nolan Ryan? Anyone?
